Nicki describes how she became inspired to create Pet Portraits: “People relate deeply to the animals they share their lives with, especially dogs and cats. The loyalty and love returned by their pets gets expressed in their eyes. Abby, my companion for 14 years, inspired me to begin making a portrait of her. Abby is gone and I now live with Sasha and Willie. Abby was smart and funny and lived to chase squirrels. I keep my portrait of her on my couch. Whenever I walk int the living room, I am pleasantly surprised to find Abby on the sofa. I just feel it’s lovely to still have the essence of Abby in my house.”
